On the 2nd day of
Muharram, Imam Hussain with His close companions and family members reached the
place called Karbala. Here Imam Hussain horse stopped to move forward. Imam
Hussain changed four horses turn by turn but no one move further. Then Imam
Hussain asked from the people of that area that what is the name of this place.
People told different name like Nainwa. Someone told that one name is also
Karbala. Then Imam Hussain ordered to set the camps here and told that we've
reached our destination. People told that this place is very barren and
unlucky. Then Imam Hussain said that we'll make the luck of this land and will
make it a Paradise. Before setting the camps, Imam Hussain purchased this land
for 60000 Dirham from the owner a local tribe called Bani Asad.
After that Imam Hussain
called the men of tribe Bani Asad and told them that we'll give you this land
as gift (Hiba) but with the three conditions. They asked from Imam Hussain
about three conditions. Then Imam Hussain said that the 1st condition is that
you will not cultivate this land. The 2nd condition Imam Hussain
told that after Ashura day our guests will come to Karbala and you will serve
our guests for three days, The last and 3rd Imam Hussain told that
after the Ashura day you will bury our bodies as there will be no one of us
here to do this. They agreed with all the conditions. Then Imam Hussain called
the women of Bani Asad and asked them to remember the promise to their men if
they refuse to do this then please bury our bodies in this land of Karbala.
Then Imam Hussain called the children’s of Bani Asad and asked them that if
none of your parents do this then please come here to play and put the soil on
our bodies. In this way our bodies will be buried while you play. People of Bani Asad have been fulfill the promise every year. They come to Karbala with their families on 10th of Muharram having spades in their hands. They also serve the guests of Imam Hussain for 3 days as they promised with Imam Hussain (A.S).
