The 3rd Day of Moharram

On 3rd Muharram, Umar ibn e Saad reached Karbala with his army of 4000 men. After setting up the camps near camps of Imam Hussain, Hur wrote a letter to Ibn-e-Ziad that as per your order we’ve brought Hussain to the place of Karbala now guide us further. After receiving letter from Hur, Ibn-e-Ziad wrote letter to Imam Hussain and said that he has been informed that You (Hussain) reached Karbala and Yazid has wrote me a letter to avoid myself from eating and sleeping well until I kill you or force You to follow our order. After reading the letter, Imam Hussain (A.S) threw it away and said that the people will never get success who pique Allah Almighty but get pleasure of creature.

Then the messenger of Ibn-e-Ziad asked Imam Hussain that what’s is your answer to this letter. Imam Hussain said (A.S) that I don’t have any answer to this letter because Ibn-e-Ziad deserves the words of punishment. Messenger returned back to Ibn-e-Ziad and told him. Then he ordered to Ibn-e-Saad to have a battle with Imam Hussain (A.S).After receiving the order of battle, Ibn-e-Saad said to Ibn-e-Ziad that I don’t want to have a battle with Hussain please assign this task to any other person. Upon this Ibn-e-Ziad said to return back the order of governance of Ray then Ibn-e-Saad prolongation to make a decision. To make a decision, Ibn-e-Saad gathered his friends and relative. All of them asked him to do so. Ibn-e-Saad refused to Ibn-e-Ziad to fight with Imam Hussain.

Then Ibn-e-Ziad said him to return back the order of governance of Ray. Upon this Ibn-E-Saad said that I’ll follow your order after you send many respectful persons from Kufa in my army. Ibn-e-Ziad replied I’ll not get suggestion from you in this regard, if you can do so then its good otherwise return the order of governance of Ray. Ammar ibne Abdullah narrated from his father that he came to see Ibn-e-Saad on the same and Ibn-e-Saad told him that Ibn-e-Ziad has ordered him to fight with Hussain but he has refused to do so. Then Ammar said that you’ve took a good decision. Ammar says that when I came back to home people told that Ibn-e-Saad is arranging his army to fight with Imam Hussain (A.S).

I (Ammar) returned back to Ibn-e-Saad but when Ibn-e-Saad saw me, he turned his face then I returned back without saying a single word.Ibn-e-Saad is the first person who raised his flag to fight with Imam Hussain (A.S) along with army of 4000 or 6000 (different narrations are there). Ibn-e-Saad set up his camp nearby the camps of Imam Hussain (A.S) and asked Azra ibne Qais to go and ask Imam Hussain that why did they travel. But Azra refused to do so because he was one of who wrote letter to Imam Hussain from Kufa. Many others also refused with the same reason. Then Kaseer bin Abdullah that I’m ready to do so and I’ll kill him if you order me. Then Ibn-e-Saad said to Kaseer to just ask from Imam Hussain (A.S) the reason/purpose of his journey/travel. Kaseer was a very stupid and immodest person. When Abu Samama saw Kaseer coming towards Imam Hussain, he said to Imam Hussain that Kaseer is a very immodest person. Then he came forward and asked from Kaseer that what he want. Kaseer replied that he want to give message to Imam Hussain (A.S) then Abu Samama said that drop your sword here, he refused.

Then Abu Samama asked Kaseer to give the message to him so that to get a reply from Imam Hussain but he refused and returned back. Then Ibn-e-Saad said Qarra bin Qais to go to Imam Hussain and asked the purpose of their travel to Karbala. When Imam Hussain saw Qarra He asked anyone knows this person. Habib ibn-e Mazahar Yes I know this person. He is person who gives good suggestion but I can’t expect that he will come as a messenger from Umar Saad. Qarra came and gave the message to Imam Hussain (A.S). Imam Hussain replied that the people of Kufa have invited me to come here if you don’t like this I’ll return back.Qarra returned back to Ibn-e-Saad and gave the reply of Imam Hussain. After listening the reply he said that I hope that Allah will save me to do this task. The Ibn-e-Saad wrote a letter to Ibn-e-Ziad and conveyed the reply of Imam Hussain (A.S). After reading the letter, Ibn-e-Ziad said that (Hassan bin Faid narrated) now Hussain has been surrounded by us now it’s not possible release Him. The Ibn-E-Ziad replied to Ibn-e-Saad to ask Hussain (A.S) to follow the order of Yazid along with His companions. After this we’ll decide that what to do onward.
